How we can help.

This Skills for Offshore Wind section of our site aims to help signpost companies looking for offshore wind related training as well as assist those looking to enter the industry and wishing to up-skill their staff. It will also aim to provide help for private sector and public sector training providers looking for assistance along with supporting all levels of skills provision in Scotland that could be applied to the offshore wind industry. 

While the site is currently under construction we can only provide certain elements of such support but the aim is to grow this resource to encompass all types of support, training and skills provision available in Scotland through working with our delivery partners, such as ESP and Skills Development Scotland (SDS), along with members of the Scottish industry clusters.

Scotland's wind sector is expanding rapidly. In this next decade we aim to deliver 40GW of offshore wind and a further 10GW of onshore wind. Looking for more information on the type of jobs available in the offshore wind sector? Well you are in luck! Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council (SOWEC) have produced a handy brochure covering just that topic.

Career Opportunities in Scotland in Offshore Wind

The Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) have partnered with the Energy and Utility Skills (EU Skills) body to deliver more detailed offshore wind occupational profiles but covering a smaller number of in demand job roles. 

Each profile includes:​

• Narrative description of the occupation​
• Salary range​
• Description of entry pathways for new entrants and experienced workers​
• A descriptions of the main tasks and duties of the role​
• Routes to competence across the UK, considering variations in the devolved nations, focussing on apprenticeships, qualifications, industry schemes and National Occupational Standards​
• Mapping of tasks/duties to units of learning from each identified route to competence​
• Progression and feeder occupations​
• A short summary of supply and demand issues for the occupation
